Hoare Lea has taken a lead role in researching and addressing the issues of climate change and the broader environmental agenda though its Research and Development (R&D) group.

The aim of the R&D group is to look beyond the near horizon. It acts as a business incubator and a test bed for new concepts and technologies, and has an enviable record of research, innovation and development. It participates in collaborative research projects with UK and European Universities and other research organisations.

Areas of research include:
• climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies
• energy modeling
• carbon neutrality strategies
• building performance studies
• drivers for change, regulation
• renewable and building- integrated power generation
• Ventilation, health and well-being

The group also represents the firm on a range of industry committees.
