    One Glass Wharf is the latest building to be completed at the Temple Quay development in Bristol.

    Hoare Lea formed part of a multi-disciplinary team helping Burges Salmon to formulate its requirements for a new headquarters, short list potential sites and ultimately select One Glass Wharf, Bristol.

    The building was 75 per cent pre-let to Burges Salmon and Hoare Lea was appointed to undertake the detailed design for the fit-out of the tenanted area. This included a separate reception, restaurant, comms rooms, seminar and training rooms, a fifth floor client meeting suite and cellular offices.
    In addition to providing technical support on the site selection, Hoare Lea was involved in producing a detailed MEPH amendments packaged to suit Burges Salmon’s requirements and in monitoring the Cat A design, installation and commissioning. Hoare Lea also provided lighting, acoustics and communications services for the development.

    Measures to reduce energy use have been incorporated, including a harbour water cooling solution and PIR controlled lighting and FCUs. These have helped One Glass Wharf to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ score.

    The Chelsea Building Society s three-storey, 4,000m2 headquarters comprises cellular and open-plan offices, call centre, training suite, restaurant, breakout rooms and a state of the art computer operations facility.

    Hoare Lea acted as environmental and MEP engineer, ensuring that thermal environmental performance, engineering systems design, future adaptability, and energy efficiency were integral to the design. Key features include ground source heat pumps and comfort cooling provided via displacement ventilation with passive chilled beams.

    BREEAM Offices Award Winner 2010

    A mixed-use development located in the centre of Bristol, Horizon House comprises more than 11,000 square metres of office space, 78 residential apartments and two levels of covered car parking.

    The largest office will accommodate the Environment Agency's national office. This has achieved a score of 85.06% for its environmental credentials under BREEAM 2006 - the highest score ever awarded by the Building Research Establishment (BRE). No other office building in the UK has ever achieved such a high rating under either BREEAM 2006 or BREEAM 2008.

    The sustainable and low energy systems used in the building include: ground source heat pumps, photovoltaic cells, a solar hot water system, high efficiency turbocor chillers, natural ventilation, rainwater harvesting and intelligent lighting systems.

    British Council for Offices - National Awards Winner - Fit-Out of Workplace

    A four-storey, 8,000m2 headquarters, Building 5 accommodates 700 staff. Facilities include cellular and open-plan offices, a large central atrium, a 250-seat restaurant, kitchen, coffee shop, underground car park and gymnasium/health club.

    To promote a positive environmental impact, sustainable and efficiency measures were central to the design. External east-, south- and west-facing brise soleil was incorporated and glazing performance and percentage optimised to provide high levels of daylight while controlling solar gain. Good insulation/ U values ensured comprehensive control of fabric gains and losses. Efficiency was achieved through heat recovery and high efficiency condensing boilers.

    CIBSE Awards 2010 winner – Integrated Project Team of the Year

    Ceredigion County Council’s 7,273sqm (gross) office building accommodates up to 475 staff in a primarily open plan office space. The design was developed to an environmentally driven brief and provides two mixed-mode wings located either side of the full height central atrium. The steel structural frame supports exposed flat pre-cast concrete soffits providing passive environmental control.

    The offices are serviced by a district biomass heating system and also have on-site solar hot water and wind turbine power generation. The scheme received the BREEAM Offices Award at the BREEAM Awards Wales 2010, with a score of 73.7%.

    Hoare Lea carried out MEP design services, together with acoustic and refrigeration duties for the development.

    The new Severn Trent HQ at Coventry is the home for nearly 1700 people and provides 18580m2 of low energy office accommodation.

    The building envelope has been designed with passive solar control features which include high performance glazing, with ‘brise soleil’ window shading and motorised ‘louvres’ that follow the path of the sun to prevent excessive solar gain while allowing in good levels of daylight.

    The building will achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating for environmental and sustainable features and aims to set new industry standards by achieving one of the lowest carbon footprints for an office building in the UK. The building uses a low energy ventilation strategy to minimise cooling loads in conjunction with exposed thermal mass.Heat energy is provided by biomass boilers whilst water saving features such as rainwater harvesting and grey water recycling are incorporated as clear demonstrations of corporate responsibility.

    The BREEAM ‘Excellent’ Kestrel House is located in Howbery Park, a business park developed by HR Wallingford - a leading UK hydraulic research agency.

    The new build office development of 3720m2 has been designed to operate in mixed-mode and uses roof mounted solar water heating. Heating to the space is provided by trench heaters located beneath each window.

    Hoare Lea was appointed by Yell to undertake the Category A and B fit out design, which included enhancements to the shell and core engineering systems.

    The 14,000m2 accommodation located at One Reading central, includes a call centre, main equipment room, gym, restaurant and cafe, meeting suite, training rooms, welcome centre and general office areas.

    The offices and meeting rooms are serviced by a 4 pipe fan coil air conditioning system, whilst supplementary ventilation systems have been provided to serve the gym, restaurant and kitchen facilities.
