I began my career as an electrical apprentice, before being sponsored to undertake a full-time Electrical Engineering degree at Manchester University. After working through several roles and grades, I then completed an MBA at Durham Business School.

Biggest engineering challenge.

The biggest engineering challenge of my career involved keeping a large listed building operable, for the entirety of a major plant replacement programme. For three years, from 2014 to 2017, we oversaw this often challenging and complex task. By keeping the building operable, the client was able to continue work and operations were largely unaffected.

A defining moment.

Having now spent 10 years at Hoare Lea, I have been fortunate to work across numerous sectors. I naturally tend towards a hands-on ‘can-do’ approach and enjoy a varied working life that still takes me to site as often as it does to clients’ offices. I really enjoy the day-to-day involvement with interesting people and the ability to make a difference to the way our building stock is cared for.
