The Mail on Sunday British Homes Awards

Winner - Apartment Block of the Year – Falcon Wharf, London, SW11

Falcon Wharf has won 'Apartment Block of the Year' at The Mail on Sunday British Homes Awards.

Hoare Lea was appointed by George Wimpey City to act as mechanical and electrical engineering consultants supplying mechanical, electrical, public health, vertical transportation, architectural acoustic and fire engineering services. The 17 storey landmark building is set on Battersea’s waterfront. With its four distinctive linked blue-clad curved towers, Falcon Wharf comprises a collection of 144 one, two and three bedroom apartments, including duplexes and a double penthouse that runs across the entire top of a tower. A waterfront restaurant and 3200m2 of commercial/office space are also integrated into the scheme, together with a central atrium with glazed roof and a scenic lift.

Highly specified, each apartment is gently curved and boasts light filled open plan living spaces and expansive views across London. The apartments are comfort cooled and glazed facade areas incorporate a 'winter garden' arrangement to minimise heating and cooling loads and give residents all-year round use. The glazed terraces also provide a semi external area that is protected by the ambient noise environment whilst also providing protection against external noise intrusion. The arrangement facilitates the configuration of passive background ventilation systems.

The building services design has assisted in achieving the vision of the architect and developer to create a bold, high quality and energy efficient award winning scheme.
