One New Change has won the prestigious Fleming award at a ceremony held on Wednesday 9th December 2009 at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in London. The annual Fleming Award recognises excellence in geotechnical design and construction.
Occupying 2.5 acres and located on a prominent site in the City of London overlooking St Paul's Cathedral, this landmark retail and office development won the award for its exceptional integration of design across engineering disciplines and its 'ground breaking' energy system.
Hoare Lea designed the office and retail MEP systems for the One New Change development and also provided specialist advice regarding vertical transportation, together with sustainability and energy systems expertise.
Working with a highly complex geometric form, One New Change complies with Part L 2006 and will realise the Mayor's target of generating 10 per cent of its energy needs from renewable sources. A pioneering energy system combining open loop bore holes (which extract and discharge water from the underground aquifer) with 219 closed loop energy piles, will maximise the renewable energy contribution.
