Land Securities' One New Change is to be awarded the highest accolade in the 2010 MIPIM Architectural Review Future Projects Awards after being announced as both Overall and Mixed Use Winner in this year's prestigious Awards.
Designed by internationally-renowned Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, with Sidell Gibson as delivery architects, One New Change is only the second ever British scheme to triumph at the Awards. Comprising 31,000 square metres commercial and 21,000 square metres retail space, One New Change is taking shape as a world-class contemporary building designed to complement its historic neighbour, St Paul's Cathedral.
The expert panel of judges praised the refreshing approach of the design and applauded One New Change as an inspiring landmark that will create a new era in the life of the City.
One New Change is set to open in time for Christmas 2010 and will lead the transformation of the City into a seven-day shopping and leisure destination. Visitors to One New Change will enjoy never-before-seen views of St Paul's Cathedral from the public roof terrace and proximity to leading cultural attractions such as the Tate Modern. One New Change is also set to provide a vibrant retail offer. Confirmed signings include Hobbs, Reiss, H&M, Marks & Spencer and Topshop and 68% of the 65 shops and restaurants have been let or reserved.
Hoare Lea designed the office and retail MEP systems for the One New Change development and also provided specialist advice regarding vertical transportation, together with sustainability and energy systems expertise.
Working with a highly complex geometric form, One New Change complies with Part L 2006 and will realise the Mayor's target of generating 10 per cent of its energy needs from renewable sources. A pioneering energy system combining open loop bore holes (which extract and discharge water from the underground aquifer) with 219 closed loop energy piles, will maximise the renewable energy contribution.
The award will be presented at this year's MIPIM property fair in Cannes on Wednesday 17 March. Hoare Lea Partners attending the ceremony will include Miles Freeman, Tim Rathbone and Mark Ryder.
