Winner - Commercial Construction and Renovation
The Environment Agency Building - Red Kite House, collected the top prize in the commercial construction and renovation category at the National Energy Efficiency Awards run by UK CEED in partnership with EDF Energy.
The project gives high priority to environmental issues, right down to a drainage system that doesn't encourage flooding downstream. Such is its success that the building is being used to show planners and developers that sustainable construction can work.
Judges commented on the winning entry:
This is how every workplace should be supremely comfortable, flexible and energy efficient with bus and cycle routes right to the door.
Hoare Lea acted as environmental design, mechanical and electrical engineer.
