Manchester Success at MSA Design Awards

Gateway House won the ‘Unbuilt Scheme’ award at the recent Manchester Society of Architects (MSA) Design Awards. The mixed-use scheme designed by Hodder + Partners architects, is a redevelopment of an iconic building leading up to Piccadilly Railway Station in Manchester. It involves both refurbishment and new build, and comprises a 270 bedroom hotel with ground floor retail, a superstore with eight storey offices over a separate three storey gym and public realm.

The MSA Design Awards showcase the work of architects in the Greater Manchester region. The awards are presented for buildings that have made a particularly positive contribution to the local environment and are judged by a jury of architects and non-architects.

The Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA) and the Charles Carter Building, both Lancaster University projects, also received commendations in the ‘Community’ category.

The winning designs were exhibited at the CUBE gallery, Manchester during May 2011.
