Datacentre Leaders’ Awards 2008

Innovation in the Medium Datacentre and the Leadership in the Public Sector

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), in partnership with Hoare Lea Consulting Engineers, scooped two awards at the prestigious Datacentre Leaders' Awards 2008 ceremony held in London on 17 December 2008. The FCO's new development at Hanslope Park won both the 'Innovation in the Medium Datacentre' and the 'Leadership in the Public Sector' categories.
Joe Levy Sheehan (Hoare Lea Project Engineer) was also shortlisted for the 'Young Mission Critical Engineer of the Year' award.

The Hanslope Park development is a high-quality, air-conditioned office building. It provides 4500m2 of office accommodation and 490m2 of data centre space. The building consists of three floors, divided into north and south blocks and separated by an atrium. The data centre has been designed and constructed as an integral element of the new building. The project mission was to enhance the services provided by the FCO by offering improved security, flexibility for future growth and system availability and reliability, while working to a 'state-of-the-art' sustainability agenda.

This year's Datacentre Leaders' Awards attracted an unprecedented level of interest and a record number of entries.

Zahl Limbuwala, Chairman, Data Centre Specialist Group at the British Computer Society (BCS) oversaw the judging process. He said:

"The judging panel of industry experts were rigorous in their approach and all of the awards were hotly contested. Congratulations to the deserving winners."
