Cowley Language College wins LABC Award for Best Sustainable Development

Cowley Language College, St Helens, has won the Best Sustainable Development category at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) North West Awards for Building Excellence.

Cowley Language College is a comprehensive school with Language College status. Designed by the Robinson Group, the new-build project comprises a three-storey building for up to 1800 people. The building was provided with a comprehensive fire engineering strategy, including voice sounders, to safeguard occupants and allow maximum value engineering savings to be achieved. Construction of the building was accompanied by a redevelopment of the existing site to improve facilities for pupils and the local community.

Hoare Lea Fire was a key member of the design team, responsible for providing a fire safety strategy to safeguard lives and provide property protection, while minimising design and construction costs.

Other Hoare Lea projects commended by the judges at the LABC North West Awards include Sir William Stainer School in the Best Educational Development category and Kingsway, Lancaster, which was commended in the Best Large Housing Development category.
