Cargo Millbay and Mills Bakery, Plymouth, achieve Building for Life Gold Standard

Cargo Millbay and Mills Bakery have both achieved Gold Standard in the Building for Life scheme.

Building for Life is the national standard for well-designed homes and neighbourhoods. It promotes design excellence and celebrates best practice in the house building industry. Schemes that score 14/20 or 15/20 receive the Silver Standard while schemes scoring 16/20 or more receive the Gold Standard.
Hoare Lea provided fire engineering and acoustics services for Cargo Millbay, an imaginative waterfront scheme located in Plymouth. The development is a large, striking urban block, which features 134 apartments and town houses, underground car parking, a landscaped courtyard garden and 1,700m2 of commercial space. Cargo has the potential to contribute significantly to the revitalisation and regeneration of Plymouth.

Mills Bakery, also in Plymouth, is a sensitive conversion of a waterfront Grade I listed building. This landmark mixed-use development comprises 87 luxury apartments, 1700m2 of retail space and more than 2500m2 of office accommodation. Hoare Lea provided MEP consultancy services and specialist acoustics advice for the scheme.

Wayne Hemingway, chair of Building for Life, says: ‘Building for Life has helped developers and planners talk the same language and by working together they’re creating far better places to live.’
