Building Services Awards 2009

Best Use of IT

Hoare Lea won 'Best Use of IT' at the Building Services Awards 2009, which took place at the London Hilton, Park Lane, on Wednesday 17 June.
The 'Best Use of IT' award was presented to Hoare Lea for its work on the converged network infrastructure at Cabot Circus. The judges commented:

'A decade ago, when Bristol's Cabot Circus scheme was conceived, the client wanted a state-of-the-art fully integrated network infrastructure. Hoare Lea brought together 20 disparate electronic systems including CCTV, billing, energy metering and fault reporting to create a converged network infrastructure (CNI). Key to the successful design was developing a scheme that was cost comparable to traditional disparate systems.'

The CNI was also applauded by the client. Neil Pennell, head of sustainability and engineering at developer Land Securities, said:

'The common network IP infrastructure is a true integration of building automation and information technology systems and signifies a step change in the evolution of intelligent buildings in the retail sector.'

Hoare Lea was also runner-up in three other categories: 'Large Consultancy of the Year'; 'Major Project of the Year' for Cabot Circus; and 'Project of the Year' for both Warwick Digital Laboratory and the Health, Exercise & Biological Sciences Building at Loughborough University.
