The Bristol Heart Institute - a £53 million specialist cardiac hospital in Bristol was crowned with both the Ibstock Premier award and the public sector award at the RIBA South West Town and Country Planning Awards on 12 October 2010.
The scheme incorporated 14,000m2 of acute medical facilities split over five levels, incorporating four state of the art catheter labs and a hybrid catheter/cardiac surgery theatre. The contemporary design also includes an internal tree line from its reception.
Hoare Lea was appointed by University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (formally United Bristol Healthcare Trust) together with Laing O’Rourke, as part of the Trust’s preferred supply chain. Hoare Lea’s role included mechanical, electrical and public health engineering consultancy and specialist fire engineering services. The building was designed to NHS EnCode standards and achieved a B in its Energy Performance Certificate rating.
The building has also won a Building Better Healthcare award for its visual art and a Value award at the South West Built environment awards.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the project.
