Winner - British Construction Industry (BCI) Judges Special Award
The Evelina Children's Hospital has been awarded the British Construction Industry (BCI) Judges Special Award for the building that the judges consider to be particularly inspirational.
The BCI said:
The Evelina is a demonstration that hospital buildings do not have to be depersonalised, uniformly decorated, enclosed spaces lit by fluorescent tubes. Overlooking the atrium, the wards have been conceived as comfortable, supportive personal spaces so that children do not feel incarcerated in an alien, remote, environment.
Hoare Lea acted as mechanical and electrical engineers designing all environmental, acoustic and building services systems. Hoare Lea also provided feature lighting design services.
