Hoare Lea has officially launched 'Adopt a School', a scheme that enables employees to visit secondary schools to promote engineering as a career. The aim is to raise awareness of the opportunities within science and engineering and to provide information regarding qualifications and training options. This will help young people to make informed choices about the subjects they study and their career path, while presenting a positive, realistic view of engineering and the construction industry.
Since November 2008, engineers from the Hoare Lea Adopt a School project team have been visiting secondary schools to talk to young people about engineering and construction. This has involved giving presentations, carrying out activities and taking part in events such as careers fairs. This pilot programme has been highly successful and the initiative is now being launched across the firm.
Hoare Lea is working with the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network (STEMNET) to help students to gain an insight into different aspects of the range of careers on offer within this exciting industry. It is an opportunity to motivate students to pursue careers in science and engineering and, as such, will benefit Hoare Lea and the wider construction industry.
