Melanie Rothnie - Graduate Mechanical Engineer
Bristol
At school I always enjoyed maths and physics which lead me to studying for a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Heriot Watt in Edinburgh. Studying in Scotland, I found there was a strong focus on careers in the oil and gas industries, which never appealed to me.
Whilst applying for jobs, Hoare Lea immediately caught my attention. The high profile nature and variety of projects really excited me. Following the completion of my degree, I joined Hoare Lea as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer. As well as the opportunity to work on interesting projects, Hoare Lea’s accredited Initial Professional Development means that my work and training is recognised as I progress towards gaining Chartered Engineer status.
I’ve worked on a variety of projects from high-end apartment blocks on the Thames to six star country house hotels. In addition to day-to-day project work, the Hoare Lea IPD lecture programme provides further insight and knowledge into aspects of building services engineering.
In the future I look forward to working on new and exciting projects, whilst gaining the skills and experience to achieve chartered engineer status.
