Clare Whiteford - Senior Engineer
London Office
I had an aptitude for maths and physics at school and based my choice of degree around subjects I was good at and enjoyed. I attended UMIST to study Environmental Engineering Design and Management and completed a placement with Hoare Lea’s Manchester office, which then sponsored me during my final year and offered me a job once I graduated.
Since gaining my degree I have completed five years on the Hoare Lea training scheme and I am currently working towards my chartered status through CIBSE.
I am involved not only in mechanical building services design, but also in the whole process of projects from conception to completion, and have had the chance to interact as part of the overall design team.
I have really enjoyed the variety – it means there is always something new to learn. This is particularly true as the industry and technologies are also constantly changing, with revised or new legislation being implemented. It’s a good time to be in the profession and I hope to carry on enjoying a varied and successful career.
